2025 Winter Golf League: The Bunker Cup
We’re thrilled to be starting the 2nd year of The Bunker Cup, a 9-hole individual golf league set to kick off this winter. League play will take place on Mondays and Wednesdays. Monday will have a 5pm and 8:30pm tee time. Wednesday is a 6pm tee time.
This league is all about enjoying golf during the winter months in a relaxed and social atmosphere. Feel free to join early or stay late, engage in friendly banter, and perhaps even participate in some light-hearted side bets after the late rounds. 😉
League Schedule
League play will begin the first week of January and the regular season will conclude Masters week April 7th. The playoffs to be played the following week.
Where are we playing
Most all of you have been to my simulator, but if not it is located in my garage. It’s all heated and comfy with plenty of TVs for any of the sporting events going on. Drinking is encouraged but not a requirement. Smoking of cigars is also fine. My address is 838 South 37th Street in Lincoln. The garage is out back and the doors will usually be open but if it is snowy or really cold there is a side door on the left.
Fees
- $50 entry fee for league participation
- This is for the prize pool for the season winners
- Weekly $5.00 simulator fee covers balls, tees, electricity, etc.
- Optional $5.00 net skins buy-in each week contributes to a skins game prize pool
- Optional bring a stack of singles, side bets are so much fun.
What to bring
Each week at a minimum bring your weekly entry fee, your clubs and your beverage of choice. If you want to bring some snacks, great. I have donated a keg of fireball for Birdie shots and there is a table of snacks. The fridge typically has beer in it and there I have a good amount of whiskey. Treat it as the penny tray, if drink some, bring some.
Handicap
Each player will have their own handicap for 9 holes. This will be .9 of your score and will require 3 rounds of play. So until 3 rounds are played, no scoring will be made.
Scoring
Each event will have FedEx style points associated with it. For a regular event, ranked lowest NET score to highest will be scored similar to the following:
Place | Points |
---|---|
1 | 100 |
2 | 75 |
3 | 60 |
4 | 50 |
5 | 45 |
6 | 40 |
7 | 35 |
8 | 30 |
9 | 25 |
10 | 20 |
11 | 15 |
12 | 10 |
13 | 7 |
Majors
There will be 2 Majors during the season. First will be with the week of February 17 at Sanctuary Moon. The Masters as the grand finale will be the other. The FedEx points for the major events will be doubled.
Maximum Strokes
Once you get past triple bogey, you can concede the hole. We will go over how to concede a hole when / if the time comes.
Penalties
The Simulation is in control. Each course is unique and has nuance. The penalties will be automatically applied by the simulator and there is no way around it. It may not always follow the true rules of golf, but then again we are golfing inside, deal with it.
Jungle Golf
If you hit your golf ball into the woods or another unplayable area and do not have a clear exit, you may take a “Sim Drop”. This will add a stroke to your score and will allow you to drop your ball no closer to the hole. We will go over how to take a “Sim Drop” if/when the time comes.
Make-ups
If you are unable to make it, please let Jon know ASAP so we are not waiting for you. Make-up rounds can be played on league nights after the late tee time finishes or if you make special arrangements with Jon.
Depending on the number of people playing in the league, there may be other tee times / days to play instead of your signed up day.
League Play
As I mentioned before, league play will happen on Mondays and Wednesdays. Please arrive and be ready by your tee time. During play, by default the system is set to play out the hole.
Playoffs
The league championship will be determined by the top 4 players after the Masters competing in a final round 18 hole event. Last year we did this the Sunday of the Masters and was a blast.
Tees
Tees will be determined based off of the course. I propose that we allow for 3 tee boxes this year. Tips, Up 1 and Up 2. With some exceptions I’ll allow you to select what tee box you play, but know that you will be at that tee box for the entire season. Jon, Tom, Jayson, JT and Craig should all play the Tips just based off of driving length and their comfort in the Sim. Play what you feel comfortable with.
Skins Game (Optional)
Each week there is an optional skins game for $5.00. All players that have signed up for skins are eligible. If no skins are won in a week, the money will be added to the next weeks skins pot.
